Join the A-TEAM! (AVIATION- Technicians, Engineers, Aviators, and Mechanics)
EMU at Lancaster hosts an annual three-day aviation STEM camp each June for fifty Lancaster County students entering grades 9-12. Funded by the Lancaster County STEM Alliance, the camp supports operational expenses and the purchase of equipment, such as a high-fidelity aircraft simulator that offers campers realistic flight experiences. Through hands-on activities in piloting, engineering, technology, and aircraft maintenance, the camp aims to inspire students to explore STEM careers, building their confidence and understanding of pathways to family-sustaining jobs in the field.
Momentum Coding Academy
Elizabethtown College’s School of Engineering and Computer Science has partnered with the Lancaster STEM Alliance to launch the Momentum Coding Academy (MCA). This six-week summer program is designed for 30 high school students from Lancaster County who will be entering grades 10-12. Participants receive 20 hours of instruction per week, focusing on computer programming and professional skills while exploring STEM career pathways. The curriculum includes key programming languages such as Python and Java, as well as topics like databases, AI ethics, web development, and cybersecurity. Students who successfully complete the program earn two college credits.
Robotic WorX
The Robotics WorX program offers internships that connect Millersville University college students with local high schools, workforce development agencies, and Precision Cobotics. This collaboration enables students to address real-world manufacturing challenges using advanced robotics and automation technologies while fostering professional development and applied research opportunities. The program takes place in the newly outfitted Robotics Solutions Lab within the Millersville University Applied Engineering program. Grant funds are used to provide essential materials and equipment for student success. The program aims to strengthen the manufacturing workforce in response to ongoing trends in automation and onshoring. Together, Millersville University, Precision Cobotics, and the Lancaster STEM Alliance seek to cultivate a diverse and skilled workforce that is prepared to meet industry demands.
Lancaster County Healthcare Careers Exploration Summer Program
Penn State PRO Wellness, in partnership with over 10 healthcare, education, and career development organizations, hosted 20 high school students for the inaugural Lancaster County Healthcare Careers Summer Exploration Program. Over six days, participants engaged with more than 20 allied health professionals at eight healthcare facilities, learning about certification and training opportunities available in local healthcare settings. The program aimed to raise awareness of healthcare careers that require less than a four-year degree and connect students with local employers.
